Momoyama ~Early Edo Period (16th/17th Century)
The peach-shaped helmet is an early Momonari Kabuto with golden Wakidate from the Warring States, which has been gilded later in the Edo Period. It is decorated with a Janome styled Maetate. There is a huge collection of golden lacquered Momonari Kabutos with a similar shape, which are a part of the collection of the Tachibana family.
The Cuirass is a Nimai Do constructed of iron and applied with patterned black lacquered leather. The lower half of the Do is made in Nuinobe/Dangae-style, fitted with seven sets of five-plate Kusazuri that hang from the base of the body armor, laced in yellow. The Armor itself is matched with Kawara Haidate that are decorated with Janome designs with golden and black brownish lacquer.
As you can see, on many of the well-known Armors from this period, the Sode are missing. The Janome Mon (snake eyes) was used by Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611) and the Kato Clan during the Momoyama and the early Edo Period.
